Great vacuum
The Panasonic MC-CG973 replaced my old Kenmoore Wispertone which was 80% the same as this one.
It's a great vacuum.

Easy fix for switch that won't turn off...
I've had this vac for a year and it's been great except like some of the others, the switch broke and I had to unplug it to turn it off. Unplug the vac and take out the screws that hold the handle together. It won't come apart completely but enough for the plastic piece that is used to turn it on and off to come off, it has the printed words 'carpet', 'floor', 'off'. The piece is poorly designed and therefore fails easily. Underneath is the real switch with a square black slider button. I moved the switch back and forth to make sure it wasn't stuck. I plugged in the vac and it turned off and on and it worked perfectly. I threw away the outside piece, screwed it back together and it works fine, It's just a little harder to reach but it's a easy fix.

Exact replacement
We had the same model from 11 years ago and it worked tirelessly for almost that whole time - the connection to the beater brushes was fritzing out so I ordered the new model as a replacement. Thus far I am pretty happy with one exception, the latch to the main cover pops open very easyily and requires constant care when moving the vacuum from area to area.

Don't buy a Panasonic
Purchased a Panasonic MC-CG 973 vacuum in 2008. Just before the warranty expired, the vacuum would not turn off unless I unplugged it. Switch would not work. I contacted Panasonic and was give a repair dealer in Pa.....I live in NJ. I could not get the vacuum into the repair shop until the following month. Since the warranty expired by then, Panasonic wouldn't extend and I had to pay for a new power hose.
Panasonic service stinks (not to mention I was on hold for 8 minutes). Power hoses should not be breaking after less than 1 yrs. use. This vacuum was not abused.
This was the second vacuum I purchased from Panasonic......I won't purchase another.

It's ok, but Amazon recommended the WRONG bags
This cleaner is ok. I'd give it a higher review if the on/off switch didn't break about two months after I bought it...plus Amazon recommended the wrong bags - it takes C-5 bags!

If I have enough research before I buy buy the Sears Kenmore, Kenmore exactly the same model (much less in price and additional indicator-based performance). Functionally, it’s actions in a good vacuum cartridge. good suction power, just move around and under furniture, practice, ON / OFF control to the thumb, most importanly, not too hard to push around like my old upright. However, there is a part of the gap I think has not been well developed. The tab that the door of the chamber-bag it is not a “click” when you close, and I can just open the door, without even pull the tab. This means that the compartment of the bag could have lost suction power. Fortunately, my brother is very useful for the repair of small appliances, so I decided to keep this machine. Otherwise I could go back to this model and a report in German. Rating: 5.3

Bought a Panasonic Vacuum MC-973 CG in 2008. Just before the warranty expired, would not turn off the vacuum, if I do not unplugged. Switch does not work. I contacted Panasonic and a repair shop in Pennsylvania. . . . I live in New Jersey. I could not get the vacuum in the garage until next month. Since the warranty has expired from Panasonic would not be considered and I had a new pipe pouvoir.pue Panasonic Service not to mention (I’ve been waiting for 8 minutes to pay). Supply lines must not be broken after less than 1 year. to use. This vacuum is not maltraité.Ce was the second Panasonic I bought a vacuum. . . . . . I will not buy another one. Rating: 5.1

This is the second Panasonic vacuum that I bought. The other took 12 years and still works. The wheels are parts of the old and we use it to draw cars. It also uses the replacement bags than the old one. The message has an additional power amplifiers, cleans great and even has a HEPA filter that keeps dust on the furniture. The tools are at hand. I would say it really sucks, but I will not give anyone the wrong idea. lol. I recommend it to anyone that is connected to a vacuum container, Rating: 5.5

As pointed out by others, easily beating the off-switch. I do not think I have more than 10-12 times and now I have used to separate, turn it off. Other than these errors completely unacceptable, the vacuum works very well, with good suction and maneuverability. I gave it 5 stars if I did not want to place them at the workshop. As it is, maybe 3 stars too generous. Rating: 5.3

I bought this to my venerable Samsung Super Show to be replaced after ten years, cracked his pipe. I’m sure he would run for much longer, but the party was no longer available. Worse still, Samsung can build more empty. Unfortunately, I have decided to replace the Panasonic. This product produces cheap everywhere. It is very low in the Department of aspiration. Do not get me wrong, it sucks big time in the department of quality. Out of the box with the power switch was intermittent. Sometimes it is not easy and sometimes it would not turn it off. I called Panasonic and they asked me to drive from Reno, NV, Sacramento, CA, 120 miles away. I spoke with them for several weeks and finally they agreed to me a prepaid UPS label so I had packed pay. Off he went 21.11. Unfortunately, Panasonic is not aware that their services junk and the service center he refused. How Panasonic issued sticker he then to Virginia Beach, VA, about 3000 miles has been sent. At 10:12 they called and said it was fixed. I learned today, 26.12, after numerous calls and long waits, he was always there. I hope this is lost when they return, so that I can always buy from someone else. Rating: 5.1
