| |
Product Description |
| Why waste time pushing a heavy vacuum when you could be spending that time with your family The Roomba is a robotic vacuum that cleans your floor without your guidance. The Roomba will clean surfaces from midpile carpet to hardwood floors, automatically adjusting its cleaning head to gather dirt the most effectively. The Roomba robotic floor vac is easy to use, but under the hood it's a complex robot featuring a high-efficiency particle vacuum and cleaning brushes that provide exceptional surface cleaning. It may be circular, but the Roomba still cleans edges and corners using its spinning side brush, which rotates outside the unit's housing diameter to gather debris from tough-to-reach spots. Just turn it on and walk away! |

Useful but lacking intelligence

Let me start out by saying i love this thing and if you have any doubts about the roomba product in general, do yourself a favor and buy one. It is a must have if you have an apartment or studio and don't have the time or the energy to sweep.
The product works as advertised and cleans up everything that a broom would get. Its even better because it can get under some furniture and requires little work on your part. I say little work because there are some things that can really cripple the roomba.
For one thing, the cliff sensor technology does not work. I have to use a virtual wall (included w/o batteries) to stop the roomba from going into my bathroom. The bathroom is set a few inches below the rest of the apartment and without the wall, the roomba would drive over this edge- but will not be able to climb back out.
The other thing that totally cripples the roomba are plastic bags and wires. The roomba will totally choke on plastic bags, and then get those bags caught in its wheels. It will struggle to get out continuously until it runs out of battery life. The roomba will also suck up cables and wires on the floor, like laptop or cell phone charging cables. It will not let these go but it will continue cleaning and driving around like a dog on a leash until it runs out of battery.
Finally, it has a tendency to move things like shoes or clothes on the floor all around the apartment (and under furniture).
In order to use this thing, you need to make sure that the floor is clear of the obstacles mentioned above and that the virtual walls are in place. I have the roomba scheduled to clean everyday shortly after I leave the apartment in the morning. Before I leave, I have to make sure the shoes are in the closet, clothes in laundry, and cables and wires on the table - otherwise I will come home to find the roomba lying dead somewhere on the floor rather than sitting idly on the charging base.
I recommend the product but I believe that iRobot has its work cut out for it to make future roombas even more hassle free and convenient. |
Great floor cleaner.... More free time...

| I like it so far I just received it last week so I am not sure about how long it will be good. I have tons of hard surface floors so I needed a canister. I love that it is bagless. My vacuum turns on from the canister. There is one button for the cord to retract and one for the on off switch. Works great so far, picks up all the crumbs and hairs on the floor. I have two dogs. I am crossing my fingers |
it works

| I am satisfied with this vacuum. It has a nice design. I like the fact that it's bagless and the filter system seems to be quite effective as the vacuum does not emit an unpleasant smell as I clean. The suction is perfect and the nozzle is very advanced in that it sucks up dust/dirt and sweeps it into the suction area at the same time. All the parts fit together well and don't come off/disconnect in the middle of vacuuming. It works great on parquet and low carpets. The only setback is a short retractable cord (probably standard for a lot of vacuums). |
Awesome power and easy maintenance

| This vacuum cleaner is definitely awesome, strong power and easy maintenance since it doesn't need bags which you have to replace and buy. It does not have many buttons for power selections, but for the low price, who needs those fancy different level of power, just use 1 on/off, it does the job. The small size is also good for storage, especially those who live in the city/downtown type condos. |

Product Description |
| With dramatically improved navigation, cleaning coverage, vacuum pickup, and particle filtration, the Roomba 530 vacuuming robot picks up amazing amounts of dirt and debris with the simple touch of a button. The powerful unit features innovative spinning side brushes that grab dirt and dust from corners and along wall edges, as well as two high-speed, counter-rotating brushes that pick up pet hair, cat litter, food crumbs, and other debris from floors. The vacuum sucks up the debris and deposits it into a large, easy-to-empty bagless dustbin, and its improved fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the unit, reducing infiltration into the living environment. For added convenience, the vacuum's cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs, while improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won't get stuck on cords and rug fringe. If the unit begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will automatically reverse the direction of its brushes to extract the item. A gentle-touch bumper system senses obstacles so the vacuum automatically slows its approach, gently touches the obstacle, then redirects to continue cleaning under or around the object. Because it cleans under beds, couches, and other hard-to-reach areas, it actually vacuums more of the floor than a standard upright can. The vacuum also senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them, and it uses built-in cliff sensors to avoid stairs and other drop-offs. In addition, invisible barriers can be set using the unit's Virtual Wall system. To mark off-limit areas, simply place a Virtual Wall at a doorway or other opening and adjust the infrared beam setting to the distance of the opening. The unit automatically detects the beam and will not cross it. The vacuuming robot returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. Its advanced power system c |
